Trip Ops Guide
Trip Ops is OpsGrip's field work management module. If your IT team ever leaves the office — for site visits, installations, equipment swaps, or audits — Trip Ops keeps everything organized in one place.
Creating a Trip
- Go to Trip Ops in the sidebar
- Click New Trip
- Fill in the details:
- Trip Name — e.g., "Server Rack Install - Downtown Office"
- Destination — Link to a Site or enter a custom address
- Date/Time — When you're going
- Assigned To — Who's going
- Priority — Low, Medium, High, Critical
- Save and start planning
Trip Detail Tabs
Each trip has six tabs for comprehensive planning:
Overview
The big picture — trip status, key details, notes, and a summary of everything planned.
Checklists
Create task lists for the trip. Pre-trip prep, on-site tasks, post-trip follow-ups. Check items off as you go — on desktop or mobile.
Inventory
Pack list for the trip. Pull items from your IT Inventory and assign them to the trip. Know exactly what's going in the van before you leave.
Expenses
Track trip costs — mileage, meals, parking, parts purchased on-site. Keep a running total for reimbursement or project billing.
Time & Mileage
Log drive time, on-site time, and mileage. Useful for tracking labor costs and optimizing future trip planning.
After-Action Report (AAR)
Document what happened, what went well, and what to do differently next time. AARs help your team learn from every field visit and build institutional knowledge.
Views
Trip Ops supports three views: - List View — Sortable table of all trips - Kanban View — Visual board with trips grouped by status - Calendar View — See trips laid out on a timeline
Tips
- Create template trips for recurring visits (monthly maintenance, quarterly audits)
- The inventory packing feature prevents the "I forgot the cable" problem
- After-Action Reports are underrated — they turn every trip into a learning opportunity
- Use the mobile view when you're on-site for real-time checklist tracking
