IT Tasks & Projects
OpsGrip gives you two tools for managing work: IT Tasks for day-to-day items and IT Projects for bigger initiatives. They work together but serve different purposes.
IT Tasks
IT Tasks is your daily work tracker. Think of it as your team's to-do system.
Views
- Department Board — All tasks across the team, grouped by status
- My Board — Your personal task view (only your tasks)
- Team Overview — See what everyone's working on
Display Options
Switch between four layouts: - Kanban — Drag cards between status columns - List — Sortable table view - Calendar — Tasks on a timeline by due date - By Assignee — Tasks grouped by team member
Creating a Task
Click New Task to open the slide-out panel. Enter a title, description, assignee, due date, priority, and status. OGI can auto-generate checklists for your task based on the description.
OGI Personal Assistant
On your My Board, OGI offers six assistant features to help you work smarter — from prioritizing your day to suggesting next steps on stalled tasks.
IT Projects
IT Projects is for larger initiatives that span days or weeks and involve multiple tasks.
Project Templates
When creating a new project, choose from 7 template types that auto-populate starter tasks: - Server Migration - Office Setup - Security Audit - Software Rollout - Network Upgrade - Infrastructure Review - Custom (blank)
Views
Projects support the same view options as tasks: List, Kanban, and Calendar.
How Tasks and Projects Connect
Tasks can be linked to projects. This lets you break a big project into individual tasks, assign them to different team members, and track progress at both levels — the daily task level and the overall project level.
Cross-Module Linking
Tasks can also link to other OpsGrip modules — inventory items, KB articles, trips, and more. This keeps context connected instead of scattered.
Tips
- Use IT Tasks for anything that takes less than a day
- Use IT Projects for anything with multiple steps or multiple people
- The Kanban view is great for daily standups — pull it up and walk through what's in progress
- OGI's checklist generation on new tasks saves time on repetitive task types
