SolarWinds Orion

The SolarWinds Orion integration pulls device alerts from your SolarWinds environment into OpsGrip's Alerts board, giving you a unified view of network health alongside all your other IT data.

What It Does

When connected, OpsGrip: - Polls SolarWinds for alerts at regular intervals via a cron job - Displays alerts on the Network Alerts board with severity levels - Feeds TV Mode with live alert data for wall-mounted displays - Matches devices to your OpsGrip inventory using IP addresses and hostnames - Adds a Network Status tab to inventory items that have a matching SolarWinds device

Setting Up the Integration

Step 1: Get Your SolarWinds API Credentials

You'll need: - Your SolarWinds Orion server URL (e.g., https://solarwinds.yourcompany.com ) - An API-enabled user account with read access to alerts and nodes

Step 2: Connect in OpsGrip

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations
  2. Find the SolarWinds Orion card
  3. Click Connect
  4. Enter your server URL and API credentials
  5. Test the connection
  6. Save

Step 3: Verify Data Flow

After connecting, check the Alerts page in OpsGrip. Active SolarWinds alerts should start appearing within a few minutes.

Alert Severity Mapping

SolarWinds alerts map to OpsGrip severity levels: - Critical (red) — Node down, interface down, major threshold breaches - Warning (amber) — High utilization, approaching thresholds, degraded performance - Info (teal) — Node rebooted, configuration changes, informational events

TV Mode

Once SolarWinds is connected, TV Mode (/dashboard/alerts/tv ) becomes a powerful NOC display. Mount a TV in your IT area and get real-time alert visibility without keeping SolarWinds open on a workstation.

Inventory Integration

When OpsGrip detects a match between a SolarWinds node and an inventory item (via IP address or hostname), it adds a Network Status tab to that inventory item. This tab shows the device's SolarWinds status, alerts, and health metrics right alongside your OpsGrip asset data.

Tips

  • Use a read-only SolarWinds account for the API connection — OpsGrip only needs to read alerts, not modify anything
  • TV Mode is the killer feature of this integration — it gives your team ambient awareness without constant SolarWinds tab-checking
  • The automatic device matching saves you from manually linking SolarWinds nodes to inventory items
  • If you don't use SolarWinds, disable this module in Module Management to keep things clean
